PACE advances values-driven communication education at CMSC and PFSC 2024

The Philippines Association of Communication Educators (PACE), the country’s pioneer and largest professional organization for communication and media educators and practitioners, successfully hosted the Communication and Media Studies Conference (CMSC) and PACE of the Future Student Camp 2024 on October 18-19 at St. Paul University, Quezon City.

Themed “Humanizing Communication Ecology: Locating Values in Communication Education and Media Practice,” the event brought together educators, researchers, and practitioners to explore the crucial role of values in shaping the future of communication and media.

Underscoring the event’s significance, PACE President Mark Lester Del Mundo-Chico emphasized the theme’s purpose, stating, “In this conference, we aim to identify and integrate values into our work as educators. We seek to understand how we effectively communicate values, principles, and cultural understanding to both students and the broader public.”

The conference, spearheaded by Ernest Collo, Jr., featured a thought-provoking panel discussion on the intersection of pop culture and science communication, alongside presentations of research conducted by communication educators across the country. It was held concurrently with the PACE of the Future Student Camp. Led by Camp Chair Herwin Cabasal, the camp provided a platform for aspiring communication professionals to share best practices, learn from each other, and collectively envision the future of media and communication education.

Reflecting on the camp’s significance, President Del Mundo-Chico shared his personal journey with PACE: “The PACE of the Future Student Camp is close to my heart because I started with PACE as a student. This camp brings students together to share best practices, learn from each other, and collaborate, as the future of media and communication education lies in their hands.”

The conference and the camp both reaffirmed PACE’s commitment to fostering a communication ecology that is innovative, collaborative, and deeply human-centered. By addressing the challenges and opportunities in communication education, PACE continues to lead the way in shaping a dynamic and values-driven future for educators, practitioners, and students alike.
