Dear colleagues,

The transfer of our Secretariat to Manila, Philippines, marks a new chapter in the history of AMIC. It is a challenging time, but as always, with challenges come opportunities. I am honored to serve as Acting Secretary-General at this time.

I thank our Chairman, Mr. Arun Mahizhnan, and the members of the Board of Directors, for their trust. This serves as an impetus to work harder. I also express my sincere appreciation to the Board for choosing the Philippine Women’s University – Asian Institute of Journalism and Communication (PWU-AIJC) to be the new host of AMIC. I would also like to acknowledge my immediate predecessor, Mr. Martin Hadlow, for his able stewardship of AMIC in the past years.

Strengthening AMIC is the responsibility of all members. This has been the course that the Board of Directors has been steering AMIC towards. Where it used to be led almost entirely by the Secretariat, it must now tap the wider resources, expertise, and abilities of its members. Thus, I am calling upon members like you to be more active in our forthcoming projects and activities.

What are some of the areas you can help AMIC with? You can contribute by reviewing papers for the annual conference and our flagship journal, The Asian Journal of Communication. We will continue with our book projects in which your participation would also be valuable.

In addition to our annual conference, seminars, and regular publications, we envision other creative and innovative projects. If you have suggestions on viable programs and projects and how to move AMIC forward, please do not hesitate to send me an email. I intend to write you regularly on current AMIC events and concerns, in addition to our regular newsletter. Please note that our contact information (e.g. email address, website) remains the same.
Lastly. I would like to remind you that our annual membership renewal is due on 31 December 2014. Please renew your membership with your respective country representatives and also encourage your colleagues to join our organization.

I see many opportunities ahead. If we combine our individual capabilities and resources, and commit to work together, AMIC would come out stronger.
